I’ve been both an avid reader and a writer for my entire life. It’s as much a part of who I am as my brown eyes specked with green and my cute flinstone feet. It starts my day and plagues my dreams.
I started taking writing seriously in 5th grade when I won my school’s fire prevention essay contest. We will never know how I would have fared nation-wide as I lost the essay when the teacher sent it home with me to do some revisions. This, of course, was before the wonderous computers of today.
I majored in English at the University of Delaware and the University of South Carolina and earned my bachelor’s degree from USC in 1995. I went from being a Blue Hen to a fighting Gamecock and grew up in a town where chicken farms could be found every few feet. That’s just a weird random fact and not one that has influenced my choice of books nor my writing.
I also earned my master’s degree in counseling from UNC Charlotte in 2011, which speaks to my interest in characters as much as my desire to help people. I once spent a summer reading only books that used a character name as a title. There are a surprising number of them.
My interests run far and wide when it comes to book choices and the stories I create. I am currently editing my very first novel – of the fantasy genre – which is a story that has been rattling around in my head for 30 odd years and, in the past, I have published articles in The Charlotte Observer, SVL FreeNews, and Iredell-Statesville Schools and Family Magazine. Ultimately, I am a consumer of words and try to use them wisely.
My hope is to entertain and enlighten you with my posts, so please enjoy all I have offered and will offer on this site. Happy reading!
